In honor of Women’s History Month three years ago, Hot Wheels released a collection of character cars based on some of the most admirable female characters from the DC, Marvel, and Star Wars franchises. And since it’s unclear whether Hot Wheels will reveal a similar collection to celebrate the annual event next month, we thought that it would be nice to look back on the lineup of character cars that the die-cast toy brand unveiled in celebration of the Women’s History Month in 2016.
The said collection was comprised of 4 character cars, and the one that stood out the most was the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Wonder Woman character car (see the pic above). Reminiscent of Gal Gadot’s superhero costume in the DC film, the car looks a little retro with its combination of red, blue, gold, and brown body paint. Its red-tinted windshield and its curved front grill give the car a fierce look.
The collection also includes a character car based on Evangeline Lily’s The Wasp, which debuted in the 2018 Marvel movie Ant-Man and the Wasp. The design of the car’s bumper is clearly inspired by the compound eyes of a wasp. The vehicle also comes with a pair of insect wings that complete its slim and sleek appearance.
In addition to The Wasp, another Marvel character car included in the collection was Black Widow. Though Hot Wheels has released a number of Black Widow character cars before, the specific edition included in the lineup reflected how Scarlett Johansson’s character looked in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
Completing the collection was a character car based on the Star Wars diminutive being Maz Kanata. Inspired by the BMW Isetta, the toy car features bulge headlights that are a clear nod to the distinctive glasses of Lupita Nyong’o’s character in the epic space opera franchise.
In recent news, toy manufacturer Mattel and Warner Bros. announced earlier this week that they are developing a movie based on Hot Wheels.
