The year 2020 saw a more than usual number of TV series cancellations due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and even though the TV industry has started to slowly bounce back since the second half of that year, many TV series have still been canceled since the start of 2021. Some of them got the ax due to low ratings and rising production costs, while others simply ran their course. Below is a list of all the canceled TV shows of 2021 so far, including TV series that ended or are ending their respective runs this year.
What shows are canceled for 2021?
No. of Season: 1
Legal comedy-drama Rebel was canceled by ABC five episodes into its freshman run last May. Despite having the network’s highest-rated series, Grey’s Anatomy, as its lead-in, Rebel underperformed in the ratings. Its 10-episode season 1 only averaged a 0.40 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.05 million viewers.
Created by Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 showrunner Krista Vernoff, Rebel centers on Annie “Rebel” Bello (Katey Sagal), a funny, brilliant, and fearless blue-collar legal advocate. Despite not having a law degree, Rebel cares deeply about the causes she fights for and the people she loves. Rebel is inspired by the life of legal clerk, consumer advocate, and environmental activist Erin Brockovich.
