It’s quite obvious that Spotify is trying to move into more than just music distribution. It’s already acquired two large podcast networks, Gimlet Media and Paracast, as well Anchor, a company specializing in podcast creation tools. Not only that but comedian Joe Rogen has also recently moved his very popular podcast, The Joe Rogen Experience, to exclusively stream on Spotify. And now, Spotify has signed on another big name to produce and host a new and exclusive podcast – Kim Kardashian West.
First reported on The Wall Street Journal, Spotify has landed on a deal with Kim Kardashian West to create a brand new exclusive show for the platform. The company has not released any details on what the show will be about. It will, however, be distributed under the Paracast network and will also involve co-producer Lori Rothschild Ansaldi. Ansaldi and Kardashian West will both act as producers and hosts of the podcast.
Joe Rogen’s contract with Spotify reportedly reached more than $100 million but we can’t expect Kardashian West’s deal to match that. Rogen has long been known in the podcast scene and is moving an already popular podcast to the platform while Kardashian West is to create a completely new one.
Lately, Kardashian West has been going under an apprenticeship program to become a lawyer and has been voicing out her advocacy for criminal justice reform. She has recently been involved with the Innocence Project, a nonprofit that exonerates wrongly convicted individuals through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to avoid future injustice.
