Jeff Fowler’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be available to stream on Hulu starting next month.

The action-adventure comedy film is set to make its Hulu debut on February 18th, an announcement made by the streamer on Tuesday alongside its other new releases for February.

Based on the popular video game franchise published by Sega, Sonic the Hedgehog movie follows the titular hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) with incredible speed as he embraces his new home on Earth. Everything is going fine until he accidentally knocks out a power grid and gets the attention of evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who plans to use him and his speed to dominate the world. To stop Dr. Robotnik from rising to power, Sonic teams up with small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), who becomes his new best friend.

Originally set to open in theaters in November 2019, Sonic the Hedgehog movie was delayed a couple of times so it could redesign the look of its titular character after fans balked at the protagonist’s creepy appearance in the movie’s now-infamous first trailer. After making the necessary changes to Sonic’s look, the flick found a lot of success in its official February 14th, 2020 release date.

The Paramount film brought in an estimated $57 million domestically during its opening weekend, which is currently the biggest debut of any video game movie adaption ever. Against a production budget of $85 million, Sonic the Hedgehog movie went on to gross $146 million in North America and $160 million overseas, for a total of $306 million worldwide.

A sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was officially announced last May, with Fowler returning as director and Pat Casey and Josh Miller coming back as writers. Last December, it was confirmed that artist Tyson Hesse would return for the follow-up film along with storyboard artist Fill Marc, whose credits include Star Trek: Lower Decks, Rick and Morty, and DuckTales. Later that month, it was reported the character Knuckles the Echidna would appear in the sequel, along with a new character named Randall.

Production on the sequel is scheduled to begin in March with filming taking place in British Columbia, Canada. The movie currently has a release date of April 8th, 2022.
