The CW has dropped the extended trailer for the much-awaited season 6 of Legends of Tomorrow, and even though the video only offers glimpses of what the Waverider crew will go up against in the new installment, it looks like it will be the show’s craziest and most fun chapter ever.
Leaning into the retro theme of the recently released VHS-inspired poster for season 6, the two-minute video starts as if it’s a trailer for an ‘80s sci-fi horror movie, complete with a suspenseful voiceover and an ‘80s-era Warner Bros. logo at the beginning.
After featuring a couple of squeals that match some of the most iconic screams in the horror genre, the trailer introduces Esperanza “Spooner” Cruz (Lisseth Chavez), a woman who was abducted by aliens when she was a child and supposedly imbued with powers that will help the Legends locate Sara (Caity Lotz) and defeat their intergalactic foes.
“The woman I love was abducted by aliens last night. I will do anything if you can find her,” Ava (Jes Macallan) tells Spooner in the trailer.
When the Legends find out that they are specifically dealing with time-traveling aliens, Astra (Olivia Swann) expresses concern, saying, “This is out of all our leagues.”
But Nate (Nick Zano) argues that they’re perfect for the job. He says, “We’re the only people who are capable of handling time-traveling aliens. We’re the experts.”
This sentiment is echoed by Ava, telling her fellow Legends: “You are all the best of the best. If we handle this logically and rationally, we will get Sara back.”
The trailer also reveals that Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) is about to become a grandfather, as his daughter Lita (Mina Sundwall) is seen with a baby bump at some point in the video. Zari (Tala Ashe) also joins a singing competition called Da Throne, which appears to get disrupted by a murderous robot.
The most unexpected moment in the trailer, however, is when Astra turns into a Disney Princess-inspired animated character, with the entire Constantine’s manor joining in the cartoon spectacle.
A pink creature that looks like a cross between Beebo and Gizmo from Gremlins is also teased at the latter part of the trailer. Many fans think that this creature will likely be featured in the previously teased “Baby Yoda” episode of Legends of Tomorrow.
“We actually devote a whole episode to Behrad (Shayan Sobhian), episode 9 of this season,” executive producer Phil Klemmer told ComicBook.com earlier this month. “We did this episode, which is kind of our Baby Yoda episode, in the middle of the season. It features a very adorable, animatronic alien, who unfortunately is not as sweet as Baby Yoda. But it also explores a timeline in which Behrad’s origin story is compromised by this alien, and he becomes a different person. All of a sudden, the Legends, including or even primarily Zari, realize that ‘oh my God, this laid-back stoner, yoga-posing peacenik that we all take for granted is being replaced by something quite different,’ and now it’s like, ‘how do we get Behrad back?’”
Legends of Tomorrow season 6 premieres on Sunday, May 2nd at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
