Star Trek: Prodigy is coming to Nickelodeon next month.
First debuted on Paramount+ last October 28th, the animated sci-fi series is now set to premiere on Friday, December 17th at 8 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon. Like on Paramount+, Star Trek: Prodigy will kick off its first season run on Nickelodeon with an hour-long series premiere, airing its first two episodes back-to-back.
Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and CBS Studios’ Eye Animation Production, Star Trek: Prodigy is set in 2383, after the events of Star Trek: Voyager. It follows six young aliens ― Gwyn (Ella Purnell), Dal (Brett Gray), Jankom Pog (Jason Mantzoukas), Murf (Dee Bradley Baker), Zero (Angus Imrie), and Rok-Tahk (Rylee Alazraqui) ― who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning, and salvation. These alien outcasts know nothing about the abandoned ship they commandeer, but over the course of their adventures together, they are each introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
Kate Mulgrew, who played Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager, voices the starship’s built-in emergency training hologram. Other voice cast members include John Noble, Jimmi Simpson, Bonnie Gordon, Daveed Diggs, Jameela Jamil, Jason Alexander, and Robert Beltran.
Star Trek: Prodigy, which consists of 20 episodes for its freshman run, has been on hiatus on Paramount+ since debuting its fifth episode on the ViacomCBS-owned streamer last November 18th. The remaining five episodes of its season 1’s first half will become available weekly starting January 6th, 2022, while the 10-episode second half of its season 1 will arrive on the service later next year.
And in case you’re wondering, Star Trek: Prodigy has already been renewed for a second season. The announcement for the show’s sophomore run was made earlier this November ― just four days after the show’s third episode arrived on Paramount+. The renewal news wasn’t really surprising, as Paramount+ had previously revealed that Star Trek: Prodigy had the top-performing premiere day out of any original animated kids’ series on the streaming service.
