The CW releases the synopsis for The 100 prequel spinoff backdoor pilot 1

The official synopsis for the backdoor pilot for The 100 prequel spinoff has been released.

Titled Anaconda, the pilot will serve as episode 8 of the current season 7 of the post-apocalyptic, sci-fi drama. According to the synopsis, Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) will confront a new adversary with a surprising connection to the past that will take viewers back to the nuclear apocalypse that destroyed the Earth.

Directed by Ed Fraiman and written by showrunner Jason Rothenberg, the episode also stars Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropoulos, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook, JR Bourne, Shelby Flannery, and Chuku Modu.

The CW ordered the pilot for the prequel spinoff in October 2019. Set 97 years before the events of the main series, the yet-to-be-titled prequel begins with the end of the world — a nuclear apocalypse that eliminates the majority of the human population on Earth — and follows a band of survivors on the ground as they learn to cope in a dangerous world while fighting to create a new and better society from the ashes of what came before.

Rothenberg will exec produce the prequel with fellow The 100 executive producer Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo of Alloy Entertainment, in association with Warner Bros. TV and CBS Television Studios.

Talks about a potential The 100 prequel started back in 2016. That year, Rothenberg revealed his plans to write a prequel novel for Alloy, the publisher of Kass Morgan’s The 100 young adult books on which the TV series is based. Then in 2019, Rothenberg teased in multiple interviews that he was working on a script for a prequel series, which was reportedly completed in the summer of that year.

The 100 prequel spinoff backdoor pilot will air on Wednesday, July 8th at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
