The Boys has seemingly made fun of Morbius’ disappointing theatrical re-release in a recent tweet promoting the show’s in-universe movie, Dawn of the Seven.
“#DawnOfTheSeven is back! Despite still being in theaters, we heard all of your tweets and will be re-releasing the film this week!” read the tweet posted by the official Vought International Twitter account. “Don’t miss your chance to re-live all the action: use code ITS-MAEVIN-TIME to get a discount on your second ticket until June 30.”

Though Morbius was not mentioned in the tweet, the discount code featured in the post is a play of words on “It’s Morbin’ Time,” the catchphrase attributed to the title character in the superhero movie, which has also been used in various viral Morbius memes on social media.
What is Morbius movie about?
Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the movie stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, a doctor who becomes a living vampire after he tried to cure his rare blood disorder.
The cast also includes Matt Smith as Milo, Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft, Jared Harris as Dr. Emil Nicholas, as well as Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson as FBI agents Al Rodriguez and Simon Stroud, respectively.
Morbius release date
Morbius was originally released in the U.S. last April 1st. Criticized for its nonsensical narrative, uninspired visual effects, and rote performances, Morbius only grossed over $163 million worldwide during its initial run.
Despite the negative reception toward the movie, thanks in part to the viral “It’s Morbin’ Time” memes, Sony decided to re-release the film in over 1,000 theaters across the country on June 3rd. Unfortunately, the re-release also performed disappointingly, just making $280,000 over its first weekend back in theaters.

What is Dawn of the Seven?
As mentioned above, Dawn of the Seven is an in-universe movie in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys. Based on Vought International’s The Seven, the superhero team-up film is the seventh installment in the Vought Cinematic Universe.
Written and directed by Adam Bourke, Dawn of the Seven depicts a fictionalized history of Vought International’s hiring of Stormfront, firing of A-Train, and Queen Maeve coming out as a lesbian. Targeting the female demographic, the movie features an original script where Queen Maeve, Starlight, and Stormfront work together to save the world.
But after Stormfront is outed as a Nazi in the actual show, Vought Studios releases a new version of the movie called the Bourke Cut, which among other things, features scenes that recontextualized Stormfront as a villain and a “Nazi Bitch” that the Seven are forced to fight.
Where to watch The Boys
