After a hiatus of nearly two years, The Boys finally returned to Amazon Prime Video last Friday with a surprise cameo appearance from Charlize Theron.
Who did Charlize Theron play in The Boys season 3?
The Boys season 3 premiere opened with a clip from the in-universe Dawn of the Seven feature film that had been long teased in the series since its freshman run. Dawn of the Seven is a parody of Zack Snyder’s Justice League and the particular clip in question mirrored the “Knightmare” reality of the DC movie.
The scene began with a tease of Stormfront, but instead of Aya Cash reprising her role, it was Theron playing the Nazi superhero role. Though not explicitly said, it was obvious that Theron was simply playing herself, an actress cast to portray the part of Stormfront in the fictional Vought Studios film.
At the end of Dawn of the Seven, Theron’s Stormfront appeared to have been defeated by Homelander (Antony Starr) with the help of his fellow supes from the Seven, so it’s unclear whether Theron will ever pop up in the show again.
Charlize Theron Doctor Strange 2 cameo
Theron’s recent appearance in The Boys isn’t her only high-profile cameo this year. Just last month, Theron made her debut as Clea in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the post-credit scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Interestingly though, Theron had more screentime in The Boys than in her first-ever Marvel movie.
Charlize Theron movies
Best known for her roles in 2003’s Monster and 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron will be next seen in the upcoming Netflix movie The School for Good and Evil and is set to reprise her role as Cipher in the 10th and 11th installments of the Fast & Furious franchise. She will also star in The Old Guard 2 and Atomic Blonde 2.
What happened to the real Stormfront?
Theron’s Stormfront isn’t the only Stormfront that appeared in The Boys season 3, episode 1. At the end of the episode, the real Stormfront, played by Cash, was shown recovering in an undisclosed medical facility after getting her eye stabbed out by Becca (Shantel VanSanten) and getting most of her limbs severed by Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) in the season 2 finale.
Though Cash’s Stormfront was literally not in her best shape, she was still able to sexually console Homelander, who was regularly visiting her until she committed suicide on his birthday by biting off her own tongue in season 3, episode 3.
Cash’s return as Stormfront surprised a lot of fans, as the actress previously said that she wouldn’t be part of season 3.
The Boys season 3 release date
The first three episodes of The Boys season 3 dropped on Amazon Prime Video on June 3rd. One new episode arrives on the streaming service every Friday, with the eight-episode season wrapping up on July 8th.
