Jamie Foxx is returning to the Spider-Man franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is in final negotiations to reprise his role as Electro in the upcoming Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man 3 starring Tom Holland in the title role. Foxx first appeared as Electro in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Andrew Garfield as the webslinger.
Though it’s not clear whether Foxx’s Electro will play a major role in Spider-Man 3 or will just pop up for a fun little cameo, fans think that the villain’s impending appearance in the movie is the latest suggestion that a live-action Spider-Verse is on the way. If this turned out to be the case, then fans may see Spider-Man versions of Holland, Garfield, and Tobey Maguire all in one film in the near future.
If Jamie Foxx is reprising his role as Electro, does that mean we’re going to get a live-action Spider-Verse film with Tom, Andrew, and Tobey ‘cause if that’s the case then sign me up. pic.twitter.com/m9qIm7p3kt

So Jamie Foxx as Electro is going to be in Spider-Man 3 (MCU). He was Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Garfield).
So… Does this mean a proper 'spiderverse' in the MCU? We've already seen J Jonah James on reappear…
What if Tobey Maguire is next?!

First it was J.K Simmons as J Jonah Jameson appearing in FAR FROM HOME. Then it was Michael Keaton's Vulture in MORBIUS. Now i's Jamie Foxx as Electro in the MCU's SPIDER-MAN 3.
Disney, Marvel, and Sony are really about to give us a live-action SPIDER-VERSE. YESSIR. #SpiderMan pic.twitter.com/bwyR0MNKyC

Foxx’s Electro won’t be the first character from Sony’s previous Spider-Man film series to make an appearance in the Holland-led Spidey movies. J.K. Simmons, who played J. Jonah Jameson in 2000s Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Maguire, reprised his role in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Plot details about the yet-to-be-titled third installment in Holland’s series of Spider-Man films are being kept under wraps, but Marvel president Kevin Feige told Fandango in July 2019 that it would feature “a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film.” In Spider-Man: Far From Home’s mid-credits scene, Spider-Man’s secret identity is exposed, with the superhero also being framed for the drone attack caused by Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio.
Directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man 3 will also see the return of Zendaya as MJ, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson.
Spider-Man 3 is currently slated for a December 17th, 2021 release.
