Fans of Supernatural and The Boys are in for a treat as Jared Padalecki, known for his iconic role as Sam Winchester on The CW series, is joining the cast of the hit Prime Video series for its upcoming fifth and final season. This news not only brings a talented actor to the already impressive ensemble but also marks a dream team reunion between Padalecki and Eric Kripke, the creative mastermind behind both hit shows. As The Boys prepares to wrap up its gritty, darkly comedic exploration of flawed superheroes, Padalecki’s addition promises to add even more excitement and intrigue to the series’ climactic conclusion.
Jared Padalecki reveals The Boys season 5 casting
In a recent interview with Variety, Padalecki revealed that he has been cast for Season 5 of The Boys. When asked if he’s joining the superhero series now that his schedule has opened up following the cancellation of his show Walker, the actor revealed the big news.
“Well, I’ll say this: Kripke and I texted today. It’s not been written yet, but I think he was saying [the final season] doesn’t even film until 2025. So yeah, I’m going to go play in Kripke’s newest playground. I had a great time the first time around, so I’m sure I’ll have a great time here again. I love the show. I think it’s hilarious and exciting.”
Padalecki continued, “Obviously, I’ll be indebted to [Kripke] and entangled with him forever. I met my wife because of him. I was Sam Winchester because of him. Supernatural happened because of him. So working with him on a show that I enjoy, I’m like, ‘Yeah, when do I fly out?’ But I don’t think we would film until at least January.
Other Supernatural alums on The Boys
Padalecki is the latest Supernatural alum to join The Boys franchise. Below is the list of all Supernatural actors who have appeared on the Prime Video series so far:
- Jensen Ackles: Ackles, who played Dean Winchester in Supernatural, joined the cast of The Boys in season 3, playing the original superhero Soldier Boy, a former member of the superhero team Payback.
- Jim Beaver: Beaver played Bobby Singer in Supernatural. In The Boys, he plays the recurring role of Robert A. Singer, the Secretary of Defense.
- Jeffrey Dean Morgan: After playing John Winchester in Supernatural, Morgan now portrays CIA Case Officer Joe Kessler in The Boys.
- Rob Benedict: Benedict, who appeared as Chuck Shurley / God in Supernatural, made a shocking cameo in The Boys as Splinter, a pathetic assistant to Firecracker who can produce perfect clones of himself.
- Nathan Mitchell: Mitchell played the character of Kelvin in two episodes of Supernatural in 2017. In The Boys, he plays the role of Black Noir.
- Lesley Nicol: Nicol played the witch Katja in a memorable Supernatural episode, and later portrayed Billy Butcher’s (Karl Urban) mother Connie in The Boys
- Christian Keyes: Keyes played the archangel Michael in a guest role on Supernatural season 13, while on The Boys, he plays the recurring role of Nathan Franklin, A-Train’s older brother and coach.
- Alexander Calvert: Calvert, who played Jack/God in Supernatural, plays Rufus in The Boys spinoff series Gen V.
Potential Supernatural Reunion Series
A real Supernatural reunion may also be happening soon. During a chat with Tommy DiDario on the host’s podcast, I’ve Never Said This Before, Padalecki revealed that he’s up for a Supernatural reunion.
“I will say this. I don’t want to do another 15 years of Supernatural. I don’t want to do another 5 years of Supernatural, [but] I am dying to do a reboot of Supernatural akin to the Gilmore Girls reboot,” Padalecki said. “Here are four one-and-a-half-hour episodes. We’ll shoot it in three months. I think Jensen [Ackles] and I both said in 2020, ‘We’d love to revisit these characters, this world. Give us five years.’ Which is next year. And I see him often. And we talk often. I think he and I are both really eager to do it. I’m certain I’ll put the flannel on again and play Sam Winchester.”
