IDW Entertainment, the production company behind the Syfy series Wynonna Earp, has released a new statement regarding the pending Season 4 production of the supernatural western drama.
In a tweet last Thursday, IDW Entertainment wrote that while production for Season 4 has yet to begin, they are doing their best to bring back the beloved show to the small screen as soon as possible.
“Hey #Earpers! Just a quick update! As you know, we love Wynonna just as much as everyone else, & have appreciated all of your support,” read IDW Entertainment’s tweet. “Everyone involved with this show is working behind the scenes to bring back another season. We’ll keep you updated when we have more to share.”
The new statement from the production company came a month after the show’s fans, Earpers, bought several billboard spaces in Times Square to show their love and support for the series as production for Season 4 continues to be delayed.
The delay is reportedly due to financial difficulties at IDW Entertainment. According to Deadline, IDW Entertainment is running a deficit and cannot proceed with production on a fourth season at this time.
As reported by Den of Geek, these financial difficulties have stemmed from the higher than expected amount of money that IDW Entertainment has spent for its new projects like Netflix’s Locke & Key and October Faction.
Despite the delay, Syfy remains committed to the series. “Syfy ordered Season 4 of Wynonna Earp from IDW and is completely committed to the series. This has not changed,” the network previously said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on the comic book series of the same name created by Beau Smith, Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp’s great-great-granddaughter (Melanie Scrofano) who is cursed with hunting the demons and other supernatural creatures that emerge in her small town of Purgatory, before they escape and bring wrath upon the world.
