Motorola has unveiled their new moto g play 2023. This is the latest edition of one of Motorola’s most popular budget models and it comes with a significantly improved display and camera, all for under $200.
Like its predecessor, the 2023 moto g play features a large 6.5-inch HD+ LCD display, but this time it packs in a respectable 90Hz refresh rate that, according to Motorola, supports a 20:9 aspect ratio which is ideal for both widescreen content consumption and video gaming.
Under the hood, Motorola has replaced the previous model’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 chipset with a MediaTek Helio G37 processor. Combined with the 90Hz display, Motorola promises less lag when users are gaming, watching videos, or scrolling through social media.
According to the device’s spec sheet, the device now features a triple camera setup comprising a 16MP sensor, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth cameras. In contrast, its predecessor only offered a dual camera setup with a 13MP main sensor.
The cameras on the moto g play 2023 support several features like Auto Smile Capture, Smart Composition, HDR, Portrait Mode, Spot Color, Burst Shot, Google Lens Integration, and other AI-enabled features.
Furthermore, the rear cameras can shoot HD and FHD footage at 30fps, and the 5MP front camera also offers support for features like Auto Smile Capture, Burst Shot, Active Photos, Live Filter, Spot Color, Gesture Selfie, and HDR.
When it comes to storage, the moto g play features 32GB of in-built storage that can be expanded up to 512GB with a microSD card.
For battery, the 2023 moto g play still features a 5,000mAh battery that Motorola claims can last up to three days on a single charge. Additionally, the device supports 10W fast charging, which Motorola says can give users “hours of battery life” with a short charge.

The moto g play 2023 will be available in the U.S. from January 12th, 2023, starting at just $169.99, which is, fortunately, the same pricing as its previous model. You’ll be able to purchase it at Best Buy and Motorola.com.
