Is United States of Al renewed?
The network announced last week that United States of Al is not coming back for a season 3. The sitcom’s ongoing season 2 will serve as its last season. The show’s 22-episode sophomore run will wrap up this week.
Why was United States of Al canceled?
The network didn’t offer an explanation for the cancellation. But for two years in a row, United States of Al, along with the Chuck Lorre-produced comedy B Positive, had been on the bubble. The two ultimately got renewed last year. But this time around, both were canceled, despite reported talks that only one of the two might join Lorre’s Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola on the CBS 2022-23 schedule.
United States of Al first season was blasted by critics for its stereotypical portrayal of Afghans. Its season 2, however, has garnered praise for how it handled the crisis in Afghanistan amid the withdrawal of U.S. troops and the Taliban’s return to power.
What is United States of Al about?
Created by David Goetsch and Maria Ferrari, United States of Al follows the friendship between Riley Dugan (Parker Young), a combat veteran, and Al Karimi (Adhir Kalyan), an interpreter from Afghanistan who helped the former while he served in the Marines. As they readjust to their normal lives in Columbus, Ohio, Al moves in with Riley and meets his father Art (Dean Norris). He later learns Riley is going through a divorce with his wife Vanessa (Kelli Goss), who has custody of their only daughter Hazel (Farrah Mackenzie). Trying to help his friend, who is also dealing with PTSD, Al decides to make it his mission to get Riley and Vanessa back together.
What will happen in United States of Al season 2 finale?
According to the synopsis for the series finale, Riley comes clean to Vanessa’s boyfriend Freddy (Brian Thomas Smith) about his relationship with her, and Cindy (Jayma Mays) grows increasingly possessive of Al. Titled Chaos / Aashob, the episode will air on Thursday, May 19th at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
