Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent will be sporting a new Man of Steel costume in season 2 of Superman & Lois.

The updated superhero outfit was revealed last week in a set photo posted by director Amy Jo Johnson on Instagram. In the picture, Johnson is standing beside Hoechlin, who is all dressed up in his new Superman costume.

“Last day of directing episode 206 of @cwsupermanandlois!!,” Johnson captioned the pic. “This has been absolutely the most thrilling experience of my career. @tylerhoechlin & @bitsietulloch and the entire cast were a dream to work with. Max Kronick & Patrick Barton Leahy really wrote a doozy for ya!! I loved every second! On to the edit and a nap! Season 2 premiers January 11th!”

The differences between Superman’s season 1 and season 2 suits are not huge, but according to ComicBook.com, the latter appears a bit more streamlined and more like the classic comics look of the character. One of the most notable changes are the boots. Compared to the old pair, the new boots feature a more comics-accurate V-shape design at the top of the footwear. The new suit also seems to be featuring much brighter colors, especially the red, and appears to have less muscle padding than the old one.

Though plot details for season 2 are being kept under wraps, it was previously revealed that Hoechlin’s fellow Teen Wolf alum Ian Bohen will be joining the show as Lieutenant Mitch Anderson, the metaphorical “new sheriff in town” at the DOD. Anderson’s worldview is divided into two types – those you serve and those who serve you. He doesn’t like that Superman exists outside that paradigm and tries to officially bring the Kryptonian under his authority.

Jenna Dewan will also appear as Lucy Lane in season 2. Dewan first played the role of Lois Lane’s (Elizabeth Tulloch) younger sister in season 1 of Supergirl.

Superman & Lois season 2 premiere airs on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
