The highly anticipated theatrical release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is just around the corner, and to help promote the action-adventure comedy film, SEGA has teamed with General Mills for a special-edition line of cereal and fruit snacks inspired by the Blue Blur.
General Mills’ Sonic the Hedgehog cereal features honey-flavored, ring-shaped cereal, complete with Chaos Emerald and Spin Dash marshmallows. The box of the cereal comes with a fun back-of-the-box activity ― perfect to stimulate one’s mind at the start of the day.
The General Mills-owned brand Betty Crocker is also releasing Sonic the Hedgehog fruit-flavored snacks, which you can see below:
“Our goal is to create holistic brand experiences for our consumers, and we’re so excited to be able to join SEGA to extend the ways that families can engage with the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog this spring,” said Katie Wong, head of Ideas & Partnerships for General Mills, in a press release. “By bringing Sonic into the cereal and fruit snacks aisles, we’re able to bring together favorites of both kids and parents, alike.”
Michael Cisneros, Senior Manager of Licensing at SEGA of America, added: “General Mills is one of the foremost brands in the food industry — especially when it comes to youth-focused products, so we’re thrilled to partner up with them. This partnership is a really fun and creative way to integrate some iconic aspects of the Sonic games into a whole new product line, and we’re excited to introduce it to Sonic fans.”
The press release didn’t specify when the Sonic the Hedgehog cereal and fruit snacks will be available at retail stores. But since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to open in U.S. theaters on April 8th, fans can expect these treats to hit store shelves anytime soon.
What will happen in Sonic the Hedgehog 2?
Picking up after the events of the first film, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will open with the titular character (Ben Schwartz) trying to make his mark as a hero in Green Hills, while Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter) are in Hawaii for the wedding ceremony of her sister Rachel (Natasha Rothwell).
So when Sonic’s enemy Doctor Robotnik (Jim Carrey) returns from the mushroom planet to search for the Master Emerald, conquer the world, and exact revenge against Sonic with the help of Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba), Sonic must team up with his new friend Miles “Tails” Prower (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) on a globe-trotting adventure to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
