Has Snowpiercer been cancelled or renewed for season 2? 1

TNT’s Snowpiercer is now halfway through its freshman run, and if you’re wondering whether or not the post-apocalyptic series will return for another season, we’re happy to inform you that the show has actually been renewed for season 2 a year before it premiered.

TNT parent company WarnerMedia handed out an early second-season renewal to Snowpiercer in May 2019 ― the same time it was announced that the series would be airing on TBS instead of TNT. The decision to change networks, however, was reversed in September of that year.

The episode count for season 2 is unclear, but it’s likely that the new season will also consist of 10 episodes just like season 1.

“We believe in the longevity of this series and that audiences will be amazed by the fantastical world that brings to life such relevant social, political and environmental issues,” TBS and TNT general manager Brett Weitz said at the time of the renewal announcement.

Based on Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 South Korean-Czech film of the same name and the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige from which the movie was adapted, Snowpiercer is a reboot of the motion picture’s continuity and follows the passengers of the Snowpiercer, a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe carrying the remnants of humanity seven years after the world becomes a frozen wasteland.

The series stars Jennifer Connelly as the train’s head of hospitality Melanie Cavill, and Daveed Diggs as former homicide detective Andre Layton. The first season’s main cast includes Mickey Sumner, Alison Wright, Iddo Goldberg, Susan Park, Katie McGuinness, Sam Otto, Sheila Vand, Mike O’Malley, Annalise Basso, Jaylin Fletcher, Lena Hall, Roberto Urbina, Sasha Frolova, and Benjamin Haigh.

Rowan Blanchard, who guest stars as Alexandra in season 1, was promoted to series regular for season 2. Steven Ogg, who currently recurs as Pike, was also promoted to series regular for the next season. It was also previously reported that Game of Thrones alum Sean Bean is joining the series as a regular for the next season. Details about his character, however, are being kept under wraps.

In addition to Bean, other new actors joining the series for season 2 include Tom Lipinski, Sakina Jaffrey, and Damian Young. All three newcomers will recur in the new season.

Season 2 of Snowpiercer has no release date yet, but production on the new season started in the last quarter of 2019.
