SpongeBob SquarePants turns 20 this year, and to celebrate this TV milestone, Nike and NBA star Kyrie Irving, who is a huge fan of the animated series, worked in collaboration with Nickelodeon to create a line of sneakers based on the most popular Bikini Bottom residents.
The collection consists of 5 different shoes: 3 of them are Nike Kyrie 5 sneakers while the other 2 are Nike Kyrie Low 2 kicks. SpongeBob, Patrick Star, and Squidward all get their own versions of Nike Kyrie 5, while Mr. Krabs and Sandy Cheeks are both honored with their own variants of Nike Kyrie Low 2.
Nike Kyrie 5 SpongeBob
SpongeBob’s Nike shoes have a bright yellow upper with brown polka dot designs. A portion of the shoes’ midsole is in color red, representing the character’s iconic necktie. The sneakers also feature brown outsoles, which is obviously a fun nod to the sea sponge’s signature shorts.
Nike Kyrie 5 Patrick Star
Patrick’s Kyrie 5 upper is inspired by the character’s pink complexion, while the shoes’ midsoles and outsoles serve as a shout-out to the starfish’s green and purple shorts.
Nike Kyrie 5 Squidward
Squidward’s Kyrie 5 is one of the simplest pairs of shoes in the collection. Though not as attention-grabbing as the others, these sneakers have a very cool colorway that combines the character’s signature seafoam green and light blue colors. The octopus’ brown shirt also gets some love through the shoes’ brown heel.
Nike Kyrie Low 2 Mr. Krabs
Mr. Krabs’ flashy Kyrie Low 2 features a bright, shiny red upper accented by gold swooshes, blue outsoles, and green money print midsoles.
Nike Kyrie Low 2 Sandy Cheeks
Inspired by Sandy Cheeks’ astronaut suit, the character’s Kyrie Low 2 doesn’t have much color. Despite that, the sneakers still capture the Texan squirrel’s essence by adding the character’s iconic pink and yellow flower to the shoes’ upper.
All sneakers in the collection feature their character’s visage on the insole and will be available on Nike SNKRS starting August 10th. The Kyrie 5 shoes are priced at $130 each pair, while the Kyrie Low 2 sneakers have a price tag of $110.
