It’s 2023, but the trend of shoe brands releasing food-inspired sneakers doesn’t seem to be ending soon.

The latest entry to the fad comes from Nike, which has recently unveiled the official photos for the Nike Dunk Low Montreal Bagel sneakers.

Nike Dunk Low Montreal Bagel details

As its name implies, this pair of Nike shoes is inspired by Montreal-styled bagels. The shoe boasts a two-tone brown upper, with sesame seed graphics sprinkled throughout the entirety of the overlay panels. Blue hits are found in the iconic Swoosh branding and heel tab, while wood graphics cover the insole. Completing the casual yet playful look of the footwear is a sail midsole and a gum outsole.

Below is the official description of the Nike Bagel Shoes:

“You know the saying: The sweeter the bagel, the sweeter the Dunk. Bringing fresh-baked style to the streets, this delicacy of a design rings you in with carb-lover colors, plus a pinch of Montreal blue for an extra shout-out to the city from la belle province. Garnished with sesame seed graphics and finished with a gum-colored sole, it’s satisfyingly easy to style — ‘cause everything goes better on top of a bagel.”

What are Montreal bagels?

For the uninitiated, Montreal-style bagels is a variety of handmade and wood-fired baked bagel that originated in Montreal, Canada. In comparison with the more popular New York-style bagels, which also contain sourdough, Montreal bagels are smaller in size, thinner, sweeter, and denser, with a larger hole.

Montreal bagels are always baked in a wood-fired oven and contain malt, egg, and no salt, and is boiled in honey-sweetened water before being baked. There are two common versions of Montreal bagels: black-seed (poppy seed), or white-seed (sesame seed). In some establishments in Montreal, they are still made by hand and baked in full view for the customers.
