Netflix has found its Lara Croft.
The streaming service announced on Monday that it has cast Hayley Atwell to voice Lara Croft in its upcoming Tomb Raider anime series.
Plot details about the series are being kept under wraps. But in Atwell’s casting announcement, Netflix revealed that the anime will be set after the events of Square Enix’s Tomb Raider video game reboot trilogy, which is comprised of 2013’s Tomb Raider, 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, and 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) know Atwell for her portrayal of Peggy Carter. Atwell made her first appearance as Agent Carter in the 2011 movie Captain America: The First Avenger and went on to reprise the role in the TV series Marvel’s Agent Carter, which ran for two seasons on ABC from 2015 to 2016. Atwell also appeared as Carter in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The character also appeared in the first episode of the Disney+ animated series What If…? and in two episodes of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
Outside of the MCU, Atwell is known for her breakthrough role as Lady Elizabeth Foster in 2008 drama film The Duchess, for which she was nominated for a British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also played the role of Lady Aliena in the 2010 Starz miniseries The Pillars of the Earth, which earned her a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film. Her other notable acting credits include 2014’s World War I drama Testament of Youth, 2015’s romantic fantasy Cinderella, and 2018’s fantasy dramedy Christopher Robin.
