Patton Oswalt is returning for the seventh and final season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
Oswalt, who played Koenig brothers Eric, Billy, Sam, and Thurston in previous seasons of the ABC series, will portray a brand-new character in Season 7, as revealed in the first-look image below unveiled by Comic Book Resources.

While the photo doesn’t really offer too many details about Oswalt’s new role, it’s likely that he’ll be playing a member of the Koenig clan, whom Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team encounter while they’re stuck in 1931 New York.
Oswalt took to Twitter to confirm his return to the show. “You’re going to REALLY love who I play in this last season. REALLY,” tweeted the actor.
While it’s not yet clear when exactly Oswalt will be showing up in Season 7, it was reported that fans are going to meet his new character in an early episode of the final season.
Koenig brothers are often times joked to be a group of life model decoys (LMDs), but they’re actually quadruplets and loyal SHIELD agents who helped develop the LMDs. Oswalt made his debut appearance on the show as Eric in the 2014 episode, Providence. Though Eric was killed off in the episode that followed, Oswalt popped up on the show again in the Season 1 finale as one of Eric’s identical siblings, Billy.
During the show’s sophomore run, Oswalt began playing the third Koenig brother named Sam. And in the fourth season, Oswalt portrayed Thurston, the fourth Koenig brother and slam poet who reluctantly agreed to help Coulson and his team in the 2017 episode, Hot Potato Soup.
The 13-episode final season of Agents of SHIELD premieres on Wednesday, May 27th at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
