A screen grab from WandaVision featuring Elizabeth Olsen, who is currently being rumored to headline her own solo Scarlet Witch movie

Fans have been calling for Elizabeth Olsen to headline a solo Scarlet Witch movie since she made her MCU debut in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to officially announce a project of that sort, rumor has it that the long-awaited film centering on Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, is already in the works.

Solo Scarlet Witch movie rumors

At the end of last month, self-described Marvel insider Harry Bowls tweeted that Marvel Studios has extended Olsen’s contract by seven years. While the tweet doesn’t reveal the projects the actress will appear in, Bowls noted that there’s huge speculation that she will be working on a solo Scarlet Witch movie within that time period.

Entertainment scoop provider MyTimeToShineHello confirmed Bowls’ report on Tuesday. In a couple of tweets, MyTimeToShineHello claimed that a “solo Scarlet Witch project” and a Childrens Crusade project are currently in development at Marvel.

Though the comic book series Avengers: The Children’s Crusade focuses on Young Avengers, Scarlet Witch plays a big role in the story. In the comic book event, the reality-altering powers of Young Avenger Wiccan are spiraling out of his control, so he sets out to find the one person who may be able to help him – the Scarlet Witch, the woman purported to be his mother.

Fan reactions to Scarlet Witch movie rumors

Although not official yet, reports of a potential Scarlet Witch movie has caused excitement among fans.

But since Disney and Marvel have yet to confirm this speculation, some fans are taking the reports surrounding the potential project with a grain of salt.

Scarlet Witch MCU appearances

After her MCU debut in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Olsen reprised her Wanda Maximoff role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Then in 2021, Olsen starred in the Disney+ series WandaVision, where Wanda fully transformed into the reality-shaping chaos magic-wielding sorceress, Scarlet Witch. Olsen received an Emmy nomination for her performance in the limited series, which also got an Emmy nod for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will be next seen in the Benedict Cumberbatch-led MCU movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will hit U.S. theaters on May 6th. Watch the trailer for the film below:
