McDonald’s Super Bowl ad is one of the star-studded commercials that debuted during last Sunday’s championship game between Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. The 30-second video features several celebrity cameos, including rapper Kanye West and NASCAR star Bubba Wallace. But did you know that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is actually part of the ad despite not physically appearing in it?
After the McDonald’s Super Bowl ad aired, Reynolds’ Aviation Gin brand posted a tweet suggesting that the actor is the one who voiced Grimace in the fun commercial. Less than 10 minutes later, Reynolds himself replied to the tweet, confirming that he indeed provided the voice of the purple rotund mascot in the ad.
Yes. Confirmed. It’s called range.

Soon after that, McDonald’s seemingly confirmed Reynold’s casting as Grimace by tweeting a rather practical question for the actor.

Titled Can I Get Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, McDonald’s 2022 Super Bowl is inspired by the customers’ indecision while ordering in the drive-thru line or via phone. It features various types of customers saying “Can I get Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh…” as they tried to select from McDonald’s extensive selection of delectable menu items.
This isn’t the first time the actor has been involved in a McDonald’s promotion. Last year, Reynolds notably helped the restaurant chain kick up its McRib marketing campaign by releasing a video, in which he created the Aviation Gin Riblet ― the perfect cocktail to pair with McRib. Interestingly, as you can watch below, it ends with Reynolds hilariously lashing out at McDonald’s to “Bring back Grimace,” which just happened in the chain’s latest Super Bowl ad.
Aside from lending his pipes to Grimace in the McDonald’s Super Bowl ad, Reynolds also stars in Netflix’s Super Bowl trailer for his new film The Adam Project, a sort of Back to the Future-style story, where Reynolds’ plays a time-traveling pilot who comes back to 2022 and has to work with his younger self and late father to save the future and his own wife (Zoe Saldana). Directed by Shawn Levy, The Adam Project premieres on the streamer on March 11th.
