In celebration of Doraemon’s 50th anniversary, Uniqlo is releasing a new t-shirt collection based on the beloved manga and anime character.
Part of Uniqlo’s UT line, this assortment of Doraemon-branded tees is comprised of eight designs for adults and six designs for kids. Arriving in various colors, including white, black, navy, khaki, orange, and green, each t-shirt is decked out with adorable graphics from the original manga, and from the animated film Stand by Me Doraemon 2, which is set to be released later this year.
In addition to Doraemon himself, the collection also features illustrations of series characters Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo, and Takeshi, as well as some of Doraemon’s popular gadgets such as the Small Light (Shrink Ray), Take-copter (The Hopter), Anki Pan (Copying Toast), and Taimu Furoshiki (Time Cloth). Half of the shirts from the collection feature huge prints on the front, while the other half have minimalist designs like the Doraemon logo placed at the chest.
The entire collection will be available for purchase on uniqlo.com starting July 13th. The adult t-shirts are priced at $14.90, while the kids’ t-shirts cost $9.90.
Stand by Me Doraemon 2, which is Doraemon’s 50th-anniversary commemorative movie, was originally scheduled to be released on August 7th. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date of the film has been delayed indefinitely, with the flick Doraemon: Nobita’s New Dinosaur taking over its slot.
Written and illustrated by Fujiko Fujio, the first full story in the Doraemon manga series was published in January 1970 and follows a male robotic cat that travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a preteen boy named Nobita.
