It’s only been less than five months since the first season of The Boys debuted on Amazon Prime Video, so fans of the superhero series were delightfully surprised when a teaser trailer for the show’s sophomore run debuted on Thursday at CCXP Sao Paulo.
The teaser trailer opens with a bloody and bruised up Homelander (Antony Starr), descending from the sky while looking at someone dearly. While the video doesn’t show who Homelander is looking at, the emotions on his suggest that he’s staring at his son, who was revealed to be alive under the care of Butcher’s (Karl Urban) wife at the end of Season 1.
The footage then cuts into a series of snippets from the upcoming season, revealing that A Train (Jessie T. Usher) is still alive after suffering a heart attack and that Mr. Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) is returning in a larger capacity in the absence of Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue).
The Deep (Chace Crawford), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), Hughie (Jack Quaid), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), and even Butcher’s dog, Terror, also pop up in the trailer, which is filled with graphic content and gruesome violence.
Though not seen in the teaser trailer, there are actually some series newcomers that will be making their debut appearance in the new season. These include You’re the Worst actress Aya Cash as Stormfront, Timeless alum Claudia Doumit as wunderkind congresswoman Victoria Neuman, and another Timeless vet Goran Visnjic as mysterious church leader Alistair Adana. Patton Oswalt is also confirmed to appear next season in an undisclosed role.
Amazon Prime Video has yet to set an exact release date for The Boys Season 2, but according to the teaser trailer, the new season will arrive sometime in 2020.
