Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) is planning to create his own Crisis of Infinite Earths in season 6 of Supergirl.
The CW has dropped the trailer for the new season of the Melissa Benoist-led series, and it reveals Lex’s ultimate goal after upgrading himself with superhuman powers at the end of season 5.
With a strong belief that “aliens shouldn’t be Earth’s saviors, Lex remains committed in destroying Supergirl (Benoist). But on top of that objective, Lex also plans to expand his reach into the universe by finishing the job of the Anti-Monitor (LaMonica Garrett).
“Once I fix this planet, I’ll do the Anti-Monitor failed to do: fix every other planet in the universe,” Lex tells Supergirl and her team in a scene teased in the trailer.
While it’s unclear how Lex would exactly do that, he has definitely made some huge progress when he managed to brainwash half the world to love him using the Obsidian platform at the end of last season.
But as the trailer suggests, Supergirl and her team find a way to save half of the population. It, however, involves Kara taking a risk once again. “If that’s what it takes to save half of the population and stop Lex, I’m willing to take that risk,” Supergirl says in the trailer.
Aside from the Supergirl season 6 trailer, The CW has also released the synopsis for the show’s season 6, episode 1 titled Rebirth, which you can read below:
“As Brainiac (Jesse Rath) lays close to death after trying to stop Lex, Supergirl and team soar in to save him, engaging in an epic battle with Gamenmae (guest star Cara Buono). After beating Leviathan, Supergirl turns her attention to Lex who has used the Obsidian platform to brainwash half the world to love him and follow him at all costs, no matter what horrible things he does. Knowing how dangerous this makes her brother, Lena (Katie McGrath) enlists the entire team – Alex (Chyler Leigh), J’onn (David Harewood), Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Kelly (Azie Tesfai), and Brainiac – to help, but Supergirl realizes that the only way to truly stop Lex is to sacrifice herself.”
Supergirl season 6 is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, March 30th at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. It is temporarily taking over the timeslot of Superman & Lois, which is set to go on hiatus after its fifth episode following a delay in production caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. When Superman & Lois returns in May, Supergirl will complete its final season later in the summer.
