As the saying goes, the more the merrier! SanDisk is definitely giving us more with its newest portable SSD prototype, carrying a whopping 8 TB of storage, it’s the biggest portable, external SSD to date.
8 TB of storage isn’t the only thing SanDisk’s newest SSD prototype can be proud of. It also boasts really fast transfer speeds, with support for SuperSpeed USB transfer protocol of up to 20 Gbps. Unfortunately, the SanDisk 8 TB Portable SSD still remains a prototype and it will not be available to the public anytime soon.
But, if you’re in the market for high-capacity, portable storage devices, SanDisk will be offering a couple of other products that will be available this year. These include the 1 TB SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C, although we don’t know when that one will launch. SanDisk expects it will be available sometime this quarter, but they’ve said nothing about the price yet.
SanDisk’s parent company, Western Digital, also announced the WD_Black P50 Game Drive SSD, a gaming-optimized drive with that same SuperSpeed USB 20 Gbps transfer speed.
