Adult Swim won’t be airing new episodes of Rick and Morty in the coming weeks.

The cable channel announced over the weekend that the adult animated sci-fi sitcom will be taking a hiatus for six weeks.

When will Rick and Morty season 6 return?

Right after airing the sixth episode of the show’s season 6 last Sunday, Adult Swim revealed on Twitter that the series won’t be coming back with new episodes until November 20th. The channel didn’t offer a reason for the hiatus, but this isn’t the first time the series has taken an in-season break.

In its social media announcement, Adult Swim told fans to “please use this time to expand your mind in preparation for the rest of the season.”

What will happen in the remaining episodes of season 6?

Synopses for the last four episodes of Rick and Morty season 6 have yet to be released, but judging by how the recent episode ended, it looks like viewers will be seeing more multiversal travel in the rest of the season after Rick finally got his portal gun fixed.

As fans can remember, Rick’s portal gun broke after Evil Morty used all of the remaining portal gun fluid at the end of the season 5 finale. Rick tried to fix it in the season 6 premiere but accidentally made a major mistake.

Rick was supposed to reset the gun’s “portal travel” in order to hop multiverses again. He, however, ended up resetting “portal travelers.” This warped Rick and Morty back to their original universes, and in extension, warped Rick’s big foe back to his original universe as well. Though multiversal travel remains very much possible in the show (through wormholes and the like), Rick’s honest slip-up has made traveling from one universe to another a very lengthy process. This explains why Rick had more Earth-based adventures in the first half of season 6.

But at the end of the most recent episode, Rick finally fixed his portal gun after returning home from saving the dinosaurs on Mars. Rick even excitedly told Morty that their portal adventures are back, seemingly confirming that more multiverse travels will be featured in the second half of season 6.
