Adult Swim has set a premiere date for Rick and Morty season 6.

Rick and Morty season 6 release date

Cartoon Network’s night-time programming block announced last week that season 6 of the two-time Emmy-winning animated series will kick off on Sunday, September 4th at 11 p.m. ET.

The 10-episode Rick and Morty season 6 is part of the 70 episodes that Adult Swim ordered in May 2018, seven months after the show’s season 3. If succeeding seasons after season 6 will have 10 episodes each, then Rick and Morty is already guaranteed to return through season 10.

Adult Swim is obviously not regretting its bulk order of Rick and Morty episodes. The show, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, was the #1 comedy across all U.S. cable in 2017, 2019, and 2021. And since the launch of HBO Max in May 2020, Rick and Morty has been ranking as one of the top series for the streaming service, both domestically and globally. Lifetime to date, Rick and Morty has been viewed over 10 billion times globally, across linear, digital, and streaming.

“It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, in a press release announcing the show’s return date. “As we prepare to launch this soon-to-be iconic season, we will be giving fans a unique way to be part of the fun – so keep your eyes peeled.”

Rick and Morty season 6 description

“It’s season 6 and Rick and Morty are back! Pick up where we left them, worse for wear and down on their luck. Will they manage to bounce back for more adventures? Or will they get swept up in an ocean of piss! Who knows?! Piss! Family! Intrigue! A bunch of dinosaurs! More piss! Another can’t miss season of your favorite show,” read a portion of the press release describing the upcoming season 6.

To those who are yet to join the Rick and Morty fandom, the series follows the sociopathic genius scientist Rick. Living with his daughter Beth’s family, Rick constantly drags her, his son-in-law Jerry, granddaughter Summer, and grandson Morty on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe.
