Adult Swim has ordered a Rick and Morty anime series.
Rick and Morty anime spinoff
Titled Rick and Morty: The Anime, the 10-episode project was revealed earlier today, May 18th, ahead of Adult Swim’s upfront presentation. Produced by Telecom Animation Film, the anime spinoff was announced alongside another upcoming Adult Swim anime series, Ninja Kamui.
Adult Swim has released a number of Rick and Morty anime shorts in the past, but Rick and Morty: The Anime is a full series. Takashi Sano, who directed the acclaimed Rick and Morty anime shorts Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil), will oversee the anime spinoff. Though Sano will adapt themes and events of the original series, Rick and Morty: The Anime will stand on its own as an original work.
“The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion,” Sano said in a statement. “It’s such a life-affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!”
Rick and Morty: The Anime fan reactions
Fans are divided about the news. While some are excited about the spinoff, others think that the project is unnecessary.
Most of the fans that are looking forward to watching Rick and Morty: The Anime are the same people who find the Rick and Morty anime shorts fun and entertaining.
It’s about time the former officially became a thing if it’s own.😁

Looking forward to it, I really like the way Rick is characterized in the shorts that have already been made. He’s a lot more whimsical

Those anime shorts they made were great, excited for this

Some fans, on the other hand, are not quite sold on the anime spinoff just yet. Interestingly, a number of people also think that the anime project will simply taint the franchise.
As a fan of both anime and Rick and Morty, I can confidently say:
Nothing good will come of this. https://t.co/JTXIsJFjTq— The 32 year old Boomer (@CyberEagle1989) May 18, 2022
Rick and Morty are going anime.
Idk I kinda think Japanese media should stay independent of western media so we don't ruin what they have going on over there lol.
Manga and anime are crushing western comics. https://t.co/G5RnPZmQ2k
