What is Patrick Stewart’s memoir called?
On Thursday, April 27th, the title of Patrick Stewart’s memoir was announced and it’s called Making It So. The memoir’s three-word title is a play on one of the most iconic catchphrases often used by Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek.
As Picard’s command to set things in motion, the phrase “Make It So” has been uttered by the character several times in the beloved sci-fi franchise. But it was first spoken by him in the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Generation, which aired on September 28th, 1987. In this episode, titled Encounter at Farpoint—Part 1, Picard uses the phrase to give the order to engage the USS Enterprise’s engines and proceed to their destination.
On the same day, Entertainment Weekly also unveiled the cover of the memoir, which you can see below:

How did Patrick Stewart’s memoir come about?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Patrick Stewart shared that he has received many offers from publishers and ghostwriters to produce his memoirs over the years. But he said no to almost all of them because he didn’t think he needs someone else to tell his own story.
“That never interested me because I would tell myself, ‘If I’m going to tell my story, I will tell it. I don’t need somebody else to tell it with me,” the 82-year-old actor explained.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic started to shut down studios in early 2020, preventing Stewart from returning to the set of Star Trek: Picard for quite some time. With nothing else to do at that time, his agent approached him with a book offer from Simon & Schuster. “We had an agreement that if I started and didn’t like it or couldn’t do it, I would repay my advance and walk away from it,” Stewart told the news outlet.
While that didn’t happen, Stewart admitted that writing the memoir was quite difficult, especially at the beginning.
“From the moment that I was sitting right where I am now and raised my hands to start typing the first sentence I was lost, and I didn’t expect to be,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It took me a while to realize how immersed I was. This will sound rather pretentious, but it would take some time for me to shift my head from my childhood, my teenage years, my first experiences as an actor, back to today and now and, what did I really want for supper?”
Despite having a rocky start, Stewart said he had fun writing his memoir. “Every moment of working on it has been thrilling for me because it was a brand-new experience,” he said.
