Lutron Just Made Luxury Smart Shades Affordable for Everyone

With a flat rate for most sizes of windows, Lutron’s smart blind pricing has become simpler, too

Lutron has established themselves as masters of smart blinds, but until now, you’ve had to pay a lot for that mastery — sometimes upwards of $500 or $600 for smart blinds to cover a single window. There are cheaper off-the-shelf options available, but those aren’t custom fit to the windows in your house. If you wanted perfect app-controlled automatic blinds, you were looking at one of the more expensive smart home improvement projects, especially for larger houses with many windows. Not so much anymore — Lutron has announced their Caseta Smart Shades at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, and not only can they be ordered and made to measure, the asking price is being cut by almost half to $400.

The new $400 asking price isn’t a starting price for the smallest option — every set of blinds up to 48 inches wide by 80 inches high will be $400, regardless of measurements. Not only does that make getting smart blinds in your home way less expensive, it helps simplify the process of figuring out how much blinds for a whole room or house will run you. If you need larger shades, Lutron can accommodate windows up to 96 inches wide by 104 inches high, with the price getting progressively steeper.

The Caseta Smart Shades will be available in roller or honeycomb styles in white or grey, with pricing the same for all options. Blackout shades are on the table, too, but they’ll cost an extra $30 per set. Installation shouldn’t prove to be an additional cost, either. Lutron has simplified their design to where these shades can be installed yourself with four screws.

Lutron has had their Serena Smart Shades available for years, but at a much higher price point. In that time, Lutron has become a leader in smart home systems (including lighting), which means their control app is well polished. Not only can you schedule your smart shades to open gradually as the sun comes up, you can gradually supplement that natural light with in-home smart lighting within those automated schedules, assuming you also have Lutron’s smart lighting system installed.

You’re not limited to the Lutron app. If you tend to lean more on Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, or Google Home, you can control the Caseta Smart Shades with any of those three.

Lutron is taking orders for Caseta Smart Shades as of publication, and orders will start shipping in February.
