Smart shades! How do you improve them? You bolster their defenses against the natural enemy of the shade — light itself. Just announced today, the Lutron Serena smart architectural honeycomb shades build on the company’s previous honeycomb shades by blocking out more light, and looking good doing it.
The new shades are able to prevent light creep from the spaces above and below the shades by building the mounting bracket into the headrail, ensuring the shades fit flush into the window. A lower rail blocks out light down below — there will be a small gap on the sides, still, so we’re not talking perfect dark. Getting close, though!
It’s not just the darkness that’s premium. Lutron is really going all out to make this a luxury product — the shades can be customized to fit your window exactly, and can be ordered in 40 different fabrics, including some options that give you blackout shades. The two rails at the top and bottom can get custom paint jobs to match your home decor, so this is something that can be made to work with the design work you’ve already done in the home. Not a surprise, as Lutron has been making some great-looking shades for some time now!
The Serena smart architectural honeycomb shades are also able to connect to Alexa, Google Assistant, and even Apple HomeKit. It can also be controlled by the company’s app, Caseta by Lutron.
Price starts at $603 for a 3′ x 5′ size. These new honeycomb shades are only available through Lutron-qualified retailers in the US and in Canada. You can get a quote on purchase and installation now, but the shades won’t start shipping until later this month.
