Lutron has announced the addition of “outdoor” control to their Caseta lineup. Lutron’s Caseta has been one of the most premium and elegant solutions to bring smart home controls and lighting to the masses. Their new Outdoor Smart Plug seamlessly taps into an existing Caseta system for some easy and beautiful smart uses. Easily and safely decorate your backyard with outdoor string lights, and they can turn on at dusk or even if outdoor motion is detected. Without an existing Caseta system, you can still inexpensively install what appears to be a hard wired wall switch for controlling it but is actually a battery-powered “pico” remote that requires zero wiring or electricity.
The Outdoor Smart Plug can be used to control outdoor lighting or any accessory that’s weatherproof and has a plug. It supports scenes and schedules just like any other Caseta device. It integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Homekit for seamless control. You can introduce a Lutron motion detector to have your walkway illuminate as you pull into the driveway. Or, if you own a Ring Video Doorbell you can have porch lights turn on when you have a visitor.
Outdoor lighting can be expensive and require professionals. Lutron has made it easy enough for anyone to install and afford. There’s zero wiring or anything technical required. By the looks of it, some serious engineering and testing went into constructing a truly long-lasting weatherproof device with its IP-65 rating. The Lutron Caseta Outdoor Smart Plug will be released in late March for $79.95.
