Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles wants to play Batman in live-action

Jensen Ackles also reveals why he hasn’t seen Matt Reeves’ The Batman yet

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester in Supernatural

Jensen Ackles wants to portray a live-action version of Batman.

During a Q&A at the recently concluded Supernatural NJ Con 2022, a fan asked Ackles which character from the Batman universe would he want to play in live-action, and the Supernatural alum quickly answered, “Batman.”

“I have gotten to do the voice, why not get to play the Bat?” explained the Dean Winchester actor, who lent his pipes to the Caped Crusader in the 2021 animated film Batman: The Long Halloween. The actor went on to say that he’s hoping “somebody over at Gotham Knights can put in a good word” for him if that role ever comes up. That “somebody” would likely be Misha Collins, Ackles’ fellow Supernatural cast member who was present at the Supernatural NJ Con with him.

It was announced last month that Collins will play the role of Harvey Dent, aka Two Face, in the CW’s Gotham Knights pilot. Though the yet-to-be-greenlit series starts in the wake of Batman’s murder, the character could still appear in flashbacks, so there’s still a chance for Ackles to actually get the role.

Has Jensen Ackles seen Matt Reeves’ The Batman?

Playing Batman in live-action is apparently one of Ackles’ dream roles, as the actor admitted that Batman castings are a “sensitive subject” for him.

Did you see the latest Batman movie?” Collins asked Ackles, referring to Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson in the lead role.

“No. I’m not yet ready to invite another Batman into my world,” Ackles replied, before jokingly adding, “Us, other Bat men were a little hesitant to invite new ones in especially it it’s [someone who] used to be a vampire.”

What will Gotham Knights be about?

Written by Batwoman trio Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams, Gotham Knights picks up in the aftermath of Bruce Wayne’s murder, with his rebellious adopted son forging an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. As the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.
