Amazon Prime Video’s I Know What You Did Last Summer is not coming back for a second season.

A modern take on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan and its 1997 film adaptation, I Know What You Did Last Summer premiered last October 15th to mixed reviews and wrapped its eight-episode run last November 12th. The show’s cancellation was first reported by Deadline last Friday.

Produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV, I Know What You Did Last Summer follows a group of friends stalked by a brutal killer one year after covering up a car accident on the night of their graduation, in which they killed someone. It features a cast led by Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, and Sebastian Amoruso, and also stars Bill Heck, Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck, and Brooke Bloom.

Iseman pulls double duty in front of the camera, playing twins Allison and Lennon, who have a mild rivalry with each other. One of the twins is the unlucky victim of the car accident, but in a shocking twist, the surviving twin assumes the identity of her dead sibling, allowing everyone to think that she’s the dead one.

“As far as making these characters separate and who they were, that’s my fun part; that’s what I love to do. But the technical side of it was so much, but it went so smoothly,” Iseman told ComicBook.com of what it’s like to play the twins in the series. “We had great directors. My acting double was fantastic and all of those elements help so much when it comes to playing twins.”

Co-produced by The Conjuring’s James Wan and his Atomic Monster banner, I Know What You Did Last Summer is part of Amazon Studios’ push in young adult programming. Despite the show’s cancellation, the streaming service remains committed to the genre. In fact, Amazon Prime Video is bringing back the breakout hit The Wilds for a second season. The streamer also has the animated series Fairfax, which is currently in the middle of a two-season renewal, and the upcoming The Summer I Turned Pretty, a TV series adaptation of Jenny Han’s YA novel series of the same name.
