These fan edits prove that Disney princesses look beautiful with shorter hair too

Long hair has long been equated with femininity and beauty, so it isn’t surprising that most Disney princesses have long, luscious locks. But ever since Mulan chopped her hair off at the beginning of her 1998 eponymous film, a lot of fans have begun to wonder what the other Disney Princesses would look like if they got haircuts. To give fans an idea of what their favorite Disney royalty would look like if they had shorter hair, artists over at Bright Side edited a number of screenshots from different Disney movies, and the results prove that short-haired Disney princesses look just as beautiful as their original long-haired counterparts. Check out the incredible fan edits in the slideshow below:

#1 Aurora

Aurora looks stunning with her long golden blond hair in the 1959 movie Sleeping Beauty. But this fan edit shows that a pixie cut also suits her well. This shorter hairdo highlights her slender neck and prominent jawline, and probably more comfortable for Aurora to sleep in, considering she spent a large amount of her screen time in the movie dozing in bed.

#2 Ariel

Though Ariel’s long red hair is one of her defining features, we think that the Princess of Atlantica would seriously consider getting a bob haircut just like in the fan edit above. Salty ocean water makes one’s hair dry and brittle, so if Ariel had a shorter hairdo then it would be a lot easier for her to keep her locks healthy, thick, and shiny.

#3 Belle

What Disney Princesses would look like if they got haircuts 9

Belle’s hairstyle changes throughout the 1991 animated classic Beauty and the Beast, but the most popular among them is her hairdo during her first dance with the Beast. During that iconic sequence, Belle wears some of her hair in a neat bun, but the majority of it trails down her neck in a beautiful, flowing motion resembling a ponytail. The artists over at Bright Side edited a shot from that sequence to give Belle a shorter hairdo, and while the result significantly changes her appearance, it doesn’t look bad at all. The princess’ adorable haircut actually reminds us of Lily Collin’s edgy pixie cut that she debuted at an Oscars after-party back in 2015.

#4 Cinderella

What Disney Princesses would look like if they got haircuts 10

In her eponymous 1950 animated movie, Cinderella has medium-length strawberry blond hair. But in this fan edit, the princess is rocking a pixie cut that gives her a queenly vibe similar to that of Julie Andrews’ Clarisse Renaldi in Disney’s The Princess Diaries film series. While this shorter haircut may not have been in style when Cinderella was released, there’s no denying that this hairdo also looks great on the titular character.

#5 Jasmine

While Jasmine’s hip-length hair appears smooth and silky, it also looks heavy based on its thick volume. So, if the Princess of Agrabah had a bob haircut just like in the fan edit above, we’re pretty sure that she’d feel more comfortable and lighter than ever.

#6 Merida

What Disney Princesses would look like if they got haircuts 12

Merida looks badass with her original long curly red hair, but this fan edit reveals that she looks equally fierce with a short curly pixie cut. Though Merida’s long unkempt hair is one of her trademarks, cutting it off puts more emphasis to her other beautiful features like her slender neck, rosy cheeks, and cute little ears.

#7 Moana

While it’s visually pleasing to see Moana in action with her long wavy black hair, this fan edit shows that a short bob haircut also looks fantastic on her. And since the temperature in Polynesia can get extra hot in the summer, a short hairdo will keep Moana cool and comfortable even under the scorching heat of the sun.

#8 Mulan

In her eponymous 1998 animated film, Mulan originally had a chest-length hair. She then cut it to shoulder length after she decided to disguise as a man. Apparently, the artists over at Bright Side didn’t think that’s short enough, so they made a fan edit of the Disney character rocking a layered short bob, which surprisingly matches her spunky personality.

#9 Pocahontas

While Pocahontas’ hip-length hair complements her tall and slender stature, this fan edit shows that a wedge haircut also matches her overall look. In Native American culture, however, hair is considered sacred and is typically only being cut off when someone in the family or community is grieving or experiencing a significant change in their life.

#10 Rapunzel

Rapunzel is known for her 70-foot golden blond hair, but at the end of the 2010 movie Tangled, Eugene cut her hair off, giving her a pixie cut. After her locks were chopped off, they quickly lost their magic and turned brown. If you’re one of those fans who are wondering what the Princess of Corona would look like if she had a short haircut and remained blonde, this fan edit basically gives you the answer.

#11 Anna & Elsa

Anna’s pixie cut in this fan edit reminds us of Kristin Stewart’s hairstyle in the 2019 Charlie’s Angels reboot, while Anna’s short haircut is pretty similar to Taylor Swift’s chin-length bob that she debuted back at the 2016 Grammys. While the Arendelle sisters both look good with shorter hairstyles, the two won’t probably dare to have their beautiful locks chopped off during the winter season, as they serve as a layer of protection from the cold.

#12 Alice

Alice has thick blond medium-length hair in the 1951 animated feature Alice in Wonderland, but in this fan edit, the character is rocking a classic pixie cut, which gives her a dashing androgynous look. Though the short haircut significantly changes her appearance, Alice gets to keep her adorable curious look.

#13 Esmeralda

Esmeralda’s long wavy black hair is one of the physical qualities that make her look mesmerizing. But this fan edit shows that Esmeralda remains as spellbinding as ever even with shorter hair. While the Romani performer would probably miss flipping her long hair as soon as she has them chopped off, maintaining and fixing a shorter hairdo would be much easier and less time consuming for her.

#14 Giselle

In the 2007 animated/live-action movie Enchanted, Giselle has long wavy strawberry-blonde hair that reaches below her back, so it’s a breath of fresh hair to see her sporting a short wedge cut in this fan edit. While both hairdos look amazing on her, we personally feel that the shorter one suits her feisty personality more.

#15 Jane

Jane has long brown hair in the 1991 film Tarzan, and while she looks lovely with it, this fan edit reveals that she looks just as charming with a short bob haircut. After all, hair care products aren’t readily available in the middle of the forest, so sporting a short haircut is way more practical than keeping a long hairstyle.

#16 Kida

Like other female Atlanteans, Kida has white long hair. But in this fan edit, the princess is rocking a layered bob haircut that highlights her chiseled jawline, prominent chin, and toned shoulders. While it looks a little unkempt, Kida’s short hair is much easier to fix and style compared to her original long locks.

#17 Megara

Megara’s long, dark auburn hair, which she wears in a high ponytail, perfectly suits her cunning personality. But this fan edit proves that the character’s snarkiness remains intact even if she’s sporting a curly pixie cut.
