Dunkaroos is bringing back its chocolate version one year after the beloved ‘90s snack brand made its triumphant return to the U.S.
The summer comeback of Chocolate Dunkaroos was confirmed by the brand’s official Instagram page on Monday, which noted that the chocolatey treat will be available at 7-Eleven, Circle K, and grocery stores nationwide.
Chocolate Dunkaroos, which feature the snack’s original vanilla cookies with milk chocolate frosting, will hit shelves starting in July. It will be available for $1.79 per 1.5-ounce tray.
“This morning we can assure you the rumors are true: Chocolate Dunkaroos are coming back, a big triumph for fans of the demanded snack,” a spokesperson for General Mills told Thrillist via email. “We all know summer is more fun with the taste of ‘90s.”

First launched in 1990, Dunkaroos were discontinued in the U.S. in 2012 but remained available in Canada until 2018. Originally, Dunkaroos cookies came in five different shapes with chocolate or vanilla frosting. By 1993, more flavors were released, including chocolate cookies with vanilla frosting, graham cookies with chocolate frosting, vanilla cookies with strawberry frosting, and graham cookies with rainbow sprinkle frosting.
But since Dunkaroos came back to the U.S. in May, only one variety has been available and that’s the classic vanilla cookies with vanilla frosting with sprinkles. Though U.S. fans still have three months to wait for the Chocolate Dunkaroos, there are actually other Dunkaroos items available in the country apart from the cookies and frosting combo. Those include Dunkaroos Cookie Dough, Mega Dunkaroos, a Dunkaroos cereal, and Dunkaroos frosting by the pint.
