Marvel fans will be seeing a different side of Carol Danvers in the much-awaited MCU movie The Marvels. If the leaked content is to be believed, then moviegoers will witness the silly and wacky side of Brie Larson’s character, who went through a fair amount of trauma in her 2019 debut movie, Captain Marvel.

Leaked The Marvels trailer

Earlier this month, a couple of images from The Marvels got leaked, and one of the pics shows Carol looking like a Disney Princess in a royal gown that is reminiscent of her iconic Captain Marvel outfit. Her two friends and fellow superheroes, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), are looking at her in shock, with the former saying “Princess?”

A second photo sees “Princess” Carol walking arm in arm with Prince Yan (Park Seo-joon), with the captioned dialogue reading, “I’m feeling so many feelings right now.”

Most copies of these photos have since been removed, but a few days later, a recording of the movie’s official trailer also leaked online, which confirms that the above line was uttered by Kamala. You can watch the complete leaked trailer below:

It’s not clear whether Carol dressing up as a princess has a huge impact on the film’s plot. But if you’re a huge Marvel fan and have been following every single update about The Marvels, then there’s nothing really surprising about this tidbit of information, because the Princess Carol twist was already leaked by some Happy Meal toys back in June.

Moreover, the potential romance between Carol and Yan has also been teased before. In August 2023, in an interview with Total Film Magazine (via The Direct), The Marvels producer Mary Livanos mentioned that Park Seo-joon‘s role in the sequel has a “fun” energy and possesses a past “relationship” with Carol.

“His character is really awesome, and [it’s] really fun when you realize his relationship to our hero,” Livanos said of Yan. “He’s a definite ally to Carol Danvers. Someone from her past that is meaningful as a friend to her, and so he and his people are important to Carol.”

While Livanos didn’t specify the relationship between Yan and Carol, the fact that Yan has the title “Prince” in its name and Carol is called Princess in the trailer, it’s fair to assume that there’s some kind of romance between the two.

Who is Carol Danvers?

Carol Danvers was introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the 2019 film Captain Marvel. The film is set in the 1990s, and it follows Danvers, a US Air Force pilot who gains superhuman powers after being exposed to the energy of the Tesseract. She is then taken in by the Kree, an alien race, and trained to be a warrior.

However, Danvers eventually discovers that the Kree have been lying to her, and she returns to Earth to help fight them. In the process, she learns more about her own past and powers, and she becomes the hero known as Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. It was also the first MCU film to be headlined by a female character. Danvers has since appeared in the MCU films Avengers: Endgame and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and she will reprise her role in the upcoming film The Marvels.

Danvers’ introduction into the MCU was significant because it made her one of the most powerful superheroes in the universe. She is also one of the few female superheroes to have her own solo film. Her introduction also helped to diversify the MCU cast, and it showed that Marvel was committed to making films with female leads.

What is The Marvels about?

Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Megan McDonnell, The Marvels is the sequel to the 2019 movie Captain Marvel. It starts with Carol Danvers investigating a wormhole linked to the Kree when her powers become entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau. The trio team up to determine why they are swapping places with each other every time they use their powers. Along the way, they will have to deal with the Kree, who are still determined to conquer Earth, as well as a new mysterious threat.
