The first official Black Adam trailer has finally arrived.

Black Adam trailer

Released on Wednesday, the Black Adam trailer opens with the titular character (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) arriving at a secluded facility where he appears to have been subjected to tests to determine the extent of his superpowers.

The video then cuts to a flashback sequence, as Black Adam himself reveals how he became who he is today. “I was a slave until I died. Then I was reborn a god,” the antihero shares. “My son sacrificed his life to save me. Now, I kneel before no one.”

While it seems that Black Adam only intends to use his powers for personal gain, like seeking justice for the death of his son, a couple of Justice Society of America (JSA) members are trying to convince him to use his powers for the greater good.

“In this world, there are heroes and there are villains. Heroes don’t kill people,” Carter Hall, aka Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), tells Black Adam in the trailer. The latter, however, makes it clear that he operates by a different moral code, as he does kill people.

Hawkman’s fellow JSA member Kent Nelson, aka Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), also attempts to bring Black Adam to the good side, telling him: “My vision has shown me the future. You have two choices: You can be the destroyer of this world or you can be its savior. That’s up to you. “

While it remains to be seen whether Black Adam will ultimately become a full-fledged superhero at the end of the movie, the final scene in the trailer proves that he does care about other people. Watch the Black Adam trailer below:
