Xbox recently announced its festive Pride Month campaign to celebrate the LGBTQA+ community. This year Xbox is offering up a colorful, customizable Xbox controller that you can actually purchase, as well as exclusive Pride-themed Xbox gear, and LGBTQ+ in-game narratives.
Xbox Pride Gear
Front and center among other promotional goods is none other than the Xbox Pride controller. While the Pride-themed controller was initially launched as a concept project and the first design was received very well, it was distributed only in limited numbers.
The increasing demand for these beautiful controllers inspired the company to make it a regular thing, so Team Xbox is making it universally available for this year’s Pride Month campaign – meaning anyone can purchase this year’s Xbox pride controller from the Xbox Design Lab.
However, Xbox has decided to settle on a different design from last year. The latest version sports 34 community flags, carefully put together to “celebrate the nuance, complexity, intersectionality, and strength of the many LGBTQIA+ communities.”
Aside from the controller, additional goodies in the form of Xbox Pride Gear is also available as part of the all-new 2022 Pride collection. Gamers can get Microsoft Casual Games t-shirts, bags, and much more from the collection.
Play & Discover
On the virtual side of things, Tell Me Why, the highly-acclaimed game novel developed by Dontnod Entertainment is going to be made available for free on Xbox consoles, the Microsoft Store, and Steam for the rest of June 2022. The narrative of the game focuses particularly on LGBTQIA+ themes, where one of the two main protagonists, Tyler Ronan, is a transgender character.
Video game developing company 343 Industries is also joining the Pride Month celebrations with a prismatic-themed emblem and nameplate for Halo Infinite players.
Even the Forza franchise is doing its bit for gamers where they’re gifting them with an “exclusive Forza rainbow livery adorning the 2009 Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster”. The livery will be gifted in-game for players in the Forza Motorsport 7, Forza Horizon 5, and Forza Horizon 4 video games.
To add to all this, Xbox is highlighting games curated by LGBTQIA+ communities as well, with some of the noted ones being: Unsighted (Studio Pixel Punk, 2021), No Longer Home (Humble Grove, 2021), Tiny Tina’s Wonderland (Gearbox Software, 2022), Dead by Daylight (Behaviour Interactive, 2016)
