The NYC Pride March turned into an almost exclusive virtual event last year due to COVID-19. But now that things are starting to look up, next month’s 2021 NYC Pride March is bringing back some in-person elements from previous years pre-pandemic.
Set to take place on June 27th, the 2021 NYC Pride March will feature live performances, on-air interviews, and exciting street-side marching activity, which will all be produced in accordance with the most current health and safety guidelines for public events in the city.
For the fifth consecutive year, the NYC Pride March broadcast special will air on ABC-7 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET on June 27th, as well as on ABC7NY.com and ABC7 New York’s Connected TV Apps on streaming platforms Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku.
Right after the broadcast, a virtual experience of the march will start streaming on NYC Pride’s Facebook page and on YouTube at 3 p.m. Featuring groups and organizations that would typically take to the streets for the annual NYC Pride March, the virtual program will be divided into segments, with each one highlighting one of this year’s five Grand Marshals.
This year’s Grand Marshals are Star Trek: Discovery star and GLAAD awardee Wilson Cruz, performer and activist Ceyenne Doroshow, lawyers and advocates Menaka Guruswamy and Arundhati Katju, HIV prevention pioneer Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, and model Aaron Rose Philip.
“This year’s Grand Marshals are the embodiment of the theme for NYC Pride 2021, ‘The Fight Continues,’” said Bansri Manek, director of the NYC Pride March, in a statement. “Their dedication to the continued fight has created a better future for individuals throughout the LGBTQIA+ community, and the bold courage they’ve demonstrated sends a clear message to the leaders of future generations about the importance of fighting for what you believe in. They also drive home the key themes of our Grand Marshal categories, including Trans Rights, Social Justice, Behind-the-Scenes, and Youth Activism. We are thrilled to be acknowledging these remarkable individuals in this year’s NYC Pride March.”
Completing the program lineup for the 2021 NYC Pride March is the March Pop Ups, which reimagines the typical Pride March Float experience by using the outdoor seating areas of locally owned businesses in Manhattan.
