Disney has finally set a streaming release date for Marvel’s Eternals.
Debuted in theaters last November 5th, Eternals will reportedly arrive on Disney+ early next year. Disney guaranteed a minimum 45-day exclusive theatrical release for Eternals last September, putting the earliest possible Disney+ date on or around December 20th this year. However, Streaming Guider reported just last week that it got confirmation from the Disney+ that the superhero movie will be available worldwide on Disney’s video on demand platform starting January 12th, 2022.
Eternals’ upcoming Disney+ release date is approximately 70 days after the movie’s theatrical release ― a huge difference from its fellow Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which arrived on the streamer just almost 40 days following its theatrical debut last September 3rd.
Unlike Black Widow that became available for streaming on Disney+ with an additional fee via Disney Premier Access, ComicBook.com pointed out that Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream Eternals at no additional cost starting January 12th. The movie will also be available for digital download on platforms like Apple TV and Prime Video once it’s streaming on Disney+.
Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals is part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Starring an ensemble cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie, the movie centers on the titular immortal alien race that emerges from hiding after thousands of years to protect Earth from their ancient counterparts called the Deviants.
With an underwhelming 48% rating out of 350+ critic reviews, Eternals is currently the lowest-rated and the first-ever MCU movie to be classified as “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience, however, disagrees, as the film boasts an impressive 80% Audience Score from over 5000 votes. So if you haven’t watched Eternals yet, make sure to stream it on Disney+ as soon as it becomes available, and decide for yourself whether it’s a flop or not.
