Philips is releasing a new lighting line up that’s specifically designed to provide a ‘floor-to-ceiling ambiance’ effect.
The company says that the new Philips Hue line – consisting of products known as The Play and The Signe – is unlike anything they’ve made thus far. For example, the Philips Hue bulbs are inefficient when it comes to reflecting light off walls – the Philips LightStrip – which is also designed for ambiance, isn’t particularly friendly on the eyes, in terms of aesthetic value. Essentially, what Philips has created with regard to the new product line is a group of centerpiece-worthy ambient lighting fixtures.
Their new Play is a “compact, versatile light bar that you can position in a variety of ways to create a truly immersive lighting experience.” These light bars provide an indirect ambient effect that can be mounted behind your TV/monitor, however, since the device is designed to be displayed, it could also be strategically placed on a desk or bookshelf.
While Play is a light bar that’s designed to be compact and portable, Signe features two fashionable lamps. One is a floor-based lamp, the other is for tabletops. They’re designed to furnish the same wall-filling ambient lighting as Play, however, they come in an even more attractive, futuristic form-factor.
Philips is taking preorders starting next month. Play will be sold as a pair for $130 or $70 each. As far as Signe, the floor-based lamp costs $250 compared to the $160 price for the tabletop version. Shipping is expected to start in October.
