The winning TV shows of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards won’t be announced until September 12th. But if the winners would be solely determined by the TV series’ popularity in online searches, then market intelligence and search startup My Telescope might have already predicted the big winners.
With only less than a week before the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, My Telescope conducted a study to find out which Emmy-nominated shows are the most searched for in each state in 2022.
Most popular Emmy-nominated drama series of 2022
In the drama category, Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul and the dreamy coming-of-age series Euphoria are in a tight race for the most popular Emmy-nominated drama series of 2022, with the former barely taking the lead as the top show in 27 of 50 states. People in the 23 remaining states searched for Euphoria the most, and a lot of those states are “Bible-Belt” states like Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, and Texas.
Better Call Saul is also the most-searched Emmy-nominated drama series one month before the Emmys.
Better Call Saul received several nominations at this year’s Emmys, including nods for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Series stars Bob Odenkirk (Jimmy McGill / Saul Goodman) and Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler) are also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, respectively.
Euphoria, meanwhile, is also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, while its main star Zendaya is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Rue Bennett. Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard in the show, is also one of the nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Most popular Emmy-nominated comedy series of 2022
Based on My Telescope’s study, sports dramedy Ted Lasso is the overall most-searched Emmy-nominated comedy series in 2022.
But one month before the Emmy Awards, What We Do in the Shadows (WWDITS) dominates Google search in 39 out of 50 states, with Ted Lasso trailing behind with seven states, freshman comedy Abbott Elementary with three states, and Only Murders in the Building with one state. This isn’t really surprising as all of them are nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Several of Ted Lasso’s main cast members also received Emmy nods for their performances. Jason Sudeikis, who plays the titular character in the show, is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. His co-stars Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya), and Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley) are all nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and cast members Sarah Niles (Dr. Sharon Fieldstone), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), and Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) are among the nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
