After weeks of releasing short teasers, AMC has finally dropped the official Better Call Saul season 6 trailer.
Released on Thursday, the two-minute video opens with partners in crime Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) getting increasingly paranoid. “Do you ever feel like you’re being followed?” Kim asks Jimmy in the trailer, and when he quotes a saying about the wicked fleeing even when not being pursued, Kim presses him, “You think we’re wicked?”
Jimmy and Kim’s paranoia is rooted in the failed attempted murder on Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton), which was organized by Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) at the end of season 5. Since Jimmy is becoming known as the “Salamanca Guy” after his involvement with the Cartel, he fears that his dealings with the Cartel may find him and Kim in the middle of the ongoing secret war between Gus and the Cartel.
While Jimmy and Kim are seen together in the trailer, one particular shot from the video suggests that the relationship between the two will further deteriorate. Last season, Jimmy was caught up in a harrowing shootout between armed Cartel members after volunteering to pick up Lalo’s bail money. Though he survived the gun battle with the help of Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), Jimmy’s “World’s 2nd Best Lawyer” travel mug that he received as a gift from Kim was struck by a bullet, rendering it completely useless.
At some point in the trailer, the mug is seen finally disposed of as a cab rolls away, with Jimmy presumably inside. As with most trailers, every single shot is relevant, so the shot in question can be interpreted as a foreshadowing of what will happen between Jimmy and Kim at the end of the series.
As his relationship with Kim, Jimmy’s profession is also under threat. As revealed in the trailer, Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian) decides to build a case against Jimmy to bar him from practicing law. “Are you building a case against Jimmy?” Kim asks Howard. “I’m just getting warmed up,” he replies.
Elsewhere in the trailer, body bags are seen lined up outside Lalo’s estate following the bloodbath in the season 5 finale. Intriguingly, however, the video also shows a rare meeting between Gus and Lalo’s uncle, Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis). Gus appears to be visiting Hector for a private conversation. The two even share a brief handshake, suggesting that an agreement of sorts has been achieved between the two parties.
Gathering guns and money for a big showdown, Mike ends the trailer with an ominous warning: “Whatever happens next, it’s not gonna go down the way you think it is.”
