The Boys season 3 finale kills off a member of The Seven

Homelander kills another member of The Seven in The Boys season 3 finale

The Boys' The Seven

The Boys season 3 wrapped up last Friday, and just like the show’s first two seasons, the latest batch of episodes ended with a death of a major character.

Who died in The Boys season 3 finale?

After being freed from a sealed pod in a military facility, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) started to seek revenge against his old team who turned him over to the Russians – a plot orchestrated by ex-Vought International CEO Stan Edgar. Soon after hearing the news that Soldier Boy was alive, a scared Black Noir, aka Earving, (Nathan Mitchell and Fritzy-Klevans Destine) went into hiding, as he was one of Soldier Boys’ former team members who betrayed him during the World War II era.

After his imaginary friends helped him confront his fears stemming from Soldier Boy’s return, Black Noir returned to the Vought Tower in the season 3 finale and showed Homelander (Antony Starr) a paper where he wrote that they should kill Soldier Boy together. The reunion between the two ended with a hug, but their next scene together culminated with Black Noir’s gruesome death.

Later in the episode, Black Noir was seen sharpening a sword when Homelander approached him and asked what was Soldier Boy like. Noir wrote on a paper that Soldier Boy was “bad.” When pressed if the returning supe has some good qualities, Black Noir underlined the word “bad” three times, suggesting that Soldier Boy was a lost cause.

Homelander, who has always had deep insecurities when it comes to family and belonging, learned in the previous episode that Soldier Boy is technically his father, so finding out what Black Noir felt about the super-soldier triggered the homicidal maniac in him. After Black Noir admitted that he knew all along that Soldier Boy is Homelander’s dad, Homelander shockingly ripped Black Noir’s guts out, and let him die in agony on the floor, claiming, “You should’ve told me.”

In addition to Black Noir, a minor yet key character also met his demise in the season 3 finale. Lamar Bishop (Graham Gauthier), who was poised to join Secretary of Defense Robert “Dakota Bob” Singer (Jim Beaver) as his running mate in the presidential election, was assassinated by The Deep (Chace Crawford), as ordered by Homelander. His death resulted in Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) becoming the vice-presidential candidate, putting her on a whole new level of untouchable.

Have we seen the last of Black Noir?

Despite getting killed off in the season 3 finale, Black Noir will still return next season. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that season 4 will introduce a new character that will take on the mantle of Black Noir.

Kripke shared that they deliberately cast a different actor (Destine) to play the maskless Black Noir in season 3, so the man (Mitchell) beneath the Black Noir suit since day 1 can return for season 4 as “a different character who wears the Black Noir suit.”

“It’s definitely not the last we’ve seen of Black Noir as a hero,” Kripke said. “It’s just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season 3, he’s gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season. We’ll explore it as the season goes on, but Nathan plays a whole new character.”

Will there be a season 4 of The Boys?

Yes. Amazon Prime Video officially renewed The Boys for a fourth season in June 2022.

When will The Boys season 4 come out?

The Boys season 4 doesn’t have an exact release date yet but filming on the new season will start in August 2022.
