The official trailer for the long-awaited The Bob’s Burgers Movie is finally here.
Dropped earlier today, the 90-second video opens with Linda’s ingenious marketing stunt to promote their burgers at Wonder Wharf, which is celebrating their 80th anniversary. Subscribing to the notion that “sex sells,” Linda puts a two-piece, polka-dot bikini over Gene’s burger costume and wears it on site to attract customers. While Bob is quite unsure of Linda’s idea, Teddy finds it clever.
Directed by Loren Bouchard and Bernard Derriman, The Bob’s Burgers Movie begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.
While the actual sinkhole is not shown in the trailer, the video features a brief scene showing Louise, Tina, and Gene video-recording the extent of the sinkhole, with the youngest Belcher sibling boldly leading their own investigation.
First announced to be in development back in October 4th, 2017, The Bob’s Burgers Movie was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on July 17th, 2020. But after getting delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the movie is now officially set for a Memorial Day weekend release date of May 27th, 2022.
“We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show,” Bouchard said of the film in a statement back in 2017. “We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever-so-slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s — but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?”
Bob’s Burgers TV series currently airs its twelfth season on Fox and has also been renewed for a thirteenth season.
