If you needed another reason to love Ikea’s Sonos Symfonisk speakers, then you’ll be glad to hear that an update is rolling out that will add support for Spotify Free streaming.
With an option to connect either via Spotify Connect or the Sonos App, Spotify Free users can stream directly to the speakers. This is something that only Spotify Premium users could do before.
Although limited to shuffle playback, the entire Spotify catalog will be available as well as access to 15 on-demand playlists, including personally curated playlists such as Discover Weekly and Release Radar. The playlists can be called upon using Google Assistant or Alexa.
The Symfonsik already plays host to a number of music services but the addition of Spotify Free should make it even more appealling to more users. Johanna Nordell, Business Developer for Ikea’s Home Smart division says that this update is a way of “bringing affordable listening to the many people.”
Despite Spotify having 248 million monthly users, only 113 million are subscribed to their premium subscription service.
The Ikea Sonos Symfonisk speaker collection starts at $99. Current owners of the Sonos Symfonisk speakers can update their devices through the Sonos App. You can add Spotify Free by accessing the Music & Content menu under the settings section of the app.
