Playmates is back as the global licensee of Star Trek toys.
After a 12-year absence from the Star Trek toy business, the Hong Kong toy company has returned to the highly competitive niche with an all-new range of Star Trek collectibles, including action figures of the most popular characters from the sci-fi franchise, as well as replicas of iconic starships and other signature accessories.
The first wave in Playmates’ new Star Trek Universe collection includes five-inch, 1:14 scale action figures of Star Trek: The Next Generation characters Jean-Luc Picard, William Riker, and Data; Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan characters James T. Kirk, Spock, and Khan Noonien Singh; as well as Star Trek: Discovery characters Michael Burnham and Saru.
Each of the eight action figures features 14 points of articulation and is packaged in either 1990s nostalgic packaging or newly designed Star Trek Universe blister card packaging, depending on the character. All action figures look a lot like their respective inspiration, thanks to Playmates’ attention to brand detail and authentic portrait sculpting.
Completing the first wave of the toy collection are replicas of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) and the standard weapon, phaser, from Star Trek: The Original Series.
The highly detailed USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) replica features lights, multiple sounds, and phrases from the very first Star Trek TV series. Measuring approximately 18 inches long, the starship replica comes with a sleek display base and is showcased in nostalgic packaging reminiscent of the 1990s.
The phaser replica also features lights and multiple sounds from the original Star Trek series and comes complete with 3x modes of activation: full, stun, and overload.
All these Star Trek toys are now available for preorder at Entertainment Earth, with shipping slated for July 2022. The action figures retail for $15.99 each, while the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) and the phaser replicas sell for $49.99 and $29.99, respectively.
